Nathan McCarthy, TBFA Investment Officer, Earns Accredited Investment Fiduciary Designation

The BaptistNathan-McCarthy Foundation of Alabama is proud to announce that Nathan McCarthy, its Investment Officer, has been awarded the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) Designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies™ (the Center), the standards-setting body for fi360. The AIF Designation signifies specialized knowledge of fiduciary responsibility and the ability to implement policies and procedures that meet a defined standard of care. The Designation is the culmination of a rigorous training program, which includes a comprehensive, closed-book final examination under the supervision of a proctor, and agreement to abide by the Code of Ethics. On an ongoing basis, Designees are required to complete continuing education to maintain the AIF Designation.

Nathan McCarthy joined The Baptist Foundation of Alabama in February 2010 as the Investment Officer. Nathan is responsible for and is involved in all areas of the Foundation’s investments and investing process. This includes all areas of the design, implementation, allocation, reporting and client communication of the investment portfolios offered to all clients of the Foundation. Nathan works closely with an external institutional investment consultant and together they guide the Foundation’s seven-member Investment Committee. Prior to joining the Foundation, he was a licensed securities professional at Merrill Lynch. Nathan spent five years as a partner on a three-person institutional consulting team in Montgomery, Alabama. Prior to this, Nathan worked as a design and manufacturing engineer with Lockheed Martin. His work was involved in aeronautics, but mainly on the F-22 Raptor program located in Atlanta, GA. He earned his undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University, in Industrial Engineering in 2003. He is now attending New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, working on his Masters of Divinity.

McCarthy FamilyNathan, his wife Caron and their three children are active members of First Baptist Church of Montgomery, where he serves in a variety of leadership positions.
